About Velqo
Velqo is an antique and vintage identifier app for iPhone, built by Mian Ltd. It helps you photograph an item, understand its likely type and era, and get a practical sense of value direction before you buy, sell, or pay for a formal appraisal.
What Velqo does
Point your camera at a piece of pottery, glass, furniture, silver, or almost any other old object, and Velqo analyses the photo alongside the details you can see — maker's marks, construction clues, materials, and condition. It is a research shortcut, not formal authentication: for high-value pieces we always recommend a qualified appraiser, and our guides say so plainly.
You can download Velqo on the App Store or get it on Google Play.
Who we are
Velqo is made by Mian Ltd., an independent UK software company founded in 2024. The same small team builds the app and runs this website, including the antique identification blog.
How our guides are made
Blog guides are written by the Velqo Editorial Team. We are open about our process:
- Research-assisted drafting. We use modern research tools, including AI, to assemble first drafts from maker archives, auction records, museum collections, and established collector references.
- Fact-checking. Claims about marks, date codes, patterns, and production eras are checked against collector references before publication, and we cite sources in our guides wherever a specific claim depends on them.
- Editorial review. Every guide passes a human review for accuracy and usefulness before it goes live, and each page shows its published and updated dates.
- Ongoing maintenance. Guides are periodically re-reviewed; when a guide is materially updated, its "Updated" date changes.
If you spot an error in any guide, please tell us — we correct mistakes and update the page.
How we make money
Velqo is a free download with an optional paid subscription in the app. The website and blog exist to help people research antiques and to introduce them to the app. We do not run advertising and we do not sell your data — see our privacy policy.
